I have done my 2nd assignment on time!

As I have done a lot of research, I have founded that so many black-and-white coloured images and videos are created and used in terms of domestic violence or abusive relationships.

So I have decided to use black-and-white images in the film I will make.

I have done the treatment with my satisfaction, Toula!

I have also done the storyboard today!
Check the 8th scene in the storyboard...
I want you to guess who they are.....; )
I'm working as an editor in a group.
So I have also done the research about the editors and how to use Avid.
The other member would be working as
a camera operator: Livia
a designer: Sandra (me and Sandra will edit the film together)
a director: Friska

I'm a little bit worried because it is already Week 9!
We really have to think and plan about our film shooting and editing schedule.

We all have the experience to shoot a film in the last semester.
But in this semester, we have got an opportunity to edit film!
I'm looking forward to the new experience to do it!

Finally, I am happy that I could finish my 2nd assignment with my satisfaction on time and I could spend lots of time for this assignment!

I'm expecting to get at least D+ for this assignment!
Thank you.

Interesting Website

Before I go back home, I just found an interesting website about film....!
http://www.selfreliantfilm.com/
It's worth to check and read!!!!!

5th December FRIDAY

I have almost done my 2nd assignment today except the storyboard! good good; )

I will make the storyboard and research more this weekend...!

I will also check all of my documents again! Make sure no mistakes!!!!

No parties this weekend I swear!!!!!

This entry sounds like more journal I think =)

What is a Synopsis?

The one sentence synopsis:
It should give the most concentrated version possible of the story, or its key event.

The one paragraph synopsis:
It is useful in finding the essence of the story. It must state very briefly and simply WHO, WHAT and HOW. It is usually structured by two to four sentences.

My synopses would be...

One sentence synopsis:

‘Love Shouldn’t Hurt’ is a 4 minutes promotional video about anti-domestic violence with bright and strong messages to raise the level of participation in a campaign against domestic violence from the current stated 10% to 50%.

One paragraph synopsis:

‘Love Shouldn’t Hurt’ about anti-domestic violence brings bright and strong messages instead of using dark messages to reduce domestic violence. This 4 minutes video will be proactive for informing the facts of Domestic Violence and the campaign ‘Love Shouldn’t Hurt’ rather than blaming victims. You will enjoy the closing images that smiling people have participated the campaign.

I would be changing bit more...!

Survey towards our target audience

Our group has conducted the first survey.
The questions and results – 20 insearch female students

1. Are you concerned about domestic violence?

yes - 30%

no - 70%

2. Have you ever participated in a campaign against domestic violence?

yes - 10%

no - 90%

3. Do you think it is a crime?

yes - 95%

no - 5 %

4. Have you ever experienced an domestic violence?

yes - 10%

no - 90%

5. Do you know someone around you who is in or has experienced domestic violence?

yes - 30%

no - 70%

- According to our survey of 20 students from Insearch UTS, the level of awareness about it is still low even though it often happens.
- Most people were aware that it is a crime, but few people did anything about it. This raises issues of power and self-esteem in female students, and targeting those students will be a focus of our strategy.

Ideas for treatment

As I have been researching, I found a video called 'Abusive Relationships PSA' on YouTube.
In the scene from 1:04 to 1.24, a girl walks towards the door and opens. The behind the door, a other boy is waiting for her. As she opens the door, she puts the paper on it. The paper says that 'Relationships NOT ownership'.

The similar scene can be used in a film I will make.
I think I can use the scene after the narration 'Stop domestic violence now. Love shouldn’t hurt.'.

A girl works towards the door and puts the paper written 'Love shouldn't hurt' on the door when she opens. A boy waits for her behind the door. She gets close to him. Then, they walk away together. We can see them from in front of the door at the same time the door is closed.

I believe that using scene will deliver the messages towards the audience
-to move on from the abusive relationships
-as well as to keep the healthy relationships

Target Audience

I sent email to William Go who is a student information corrdinator.
I asked him about the number of stundets in Insearch UTS.

All information, below, is about stundents who study Diploma at Insearch UTS.

How many students --> 1256 students
How many international students ---> 958 students
How many studnets between 18 -25 both international and domestic ---> 1147 students
How many female students aged 18 -25 both international and domestic ---> 492 students

So our target audience is 492 female students.

Why we have chosen that target audience is because of the results of the research.

According to Australian Government Website, the majority of victims are female (71.1%) and majority of offenders are male (80.4 %) in NSW.

1 in every 3 boys in Australia believes it is acceptable to hit girls and many children are routinely exposed to domestic violence (Mirabella, 2008, p.1).

I and my group members had decided our target audience that would be both male and female students. However, from the results of research, we have decided to change the target audience to only female students.

Analysis of colours

According to Garrison, colour can be a dominant element of images and the most powerful force of colour is its emotional impact.

Red = passion and romance or violence and anger.

Yellow = joy and intelligence or criticism and being scared.

Blue = peace and harmony or fear and depression.

Orange = confidence and energy or slowness and pain (fire)

Purple = royalty and religious or bruised and beaten. Domestic Violence.

Green = growth and soothing or envy and greed.

Black = strong and committed or evil and death.

White = purity and goodness or cold and distant.

Iler (2007, p.3) states that colours have cultural significance.
Therefore we have to consider about colours carefully.
Remember to keep the colour of cultural and family history in mind
when we chose.

Black and white colours add a classy touch and historical feel to a picture (JCWcn.com, 2008).

According to Academon, the colour PURPLE is the symbolic colour for domestic violence.

In sums up, I am considering to use the black, white and purple as the main colour in our film.

Good example videos & analysis

Yes we can / Barack Obama Music Video

Like this video, we will shoot many people (our teachers and friends) who say ‘Love Shouldn’t Hurt’ instead of ‘Yes we can’. We believe that this way (repeating the words) can emphasize the message and deliver it brightly and powerfully rather than darkly.

Domestic violence scene carl chloe ben alex

We are also going to use black-and-white colour for the part of violence scene. From the analysis I have found so many black-and -white colour videos for violence scenes.

Don't turn a night out into a nightmare /
Australian Government, Department Health and Ageing

http://www.drinkingnightmare.gov.au/internet/drinkingnightmare/publishing.nsf/Content/television-commercials
(Over 18 Advant version)

Good example of showing the scene of violence. The end of the commercial we can see the violence scene. The whole commercial is shoot as a someone's POV... then the end of this commercial a guy abuses to the camera (as to a people). The way to shoot is really affective. It shows the violence scene clearly but it is not too violent or offensive.
Therefore, I think that when we shoot the scene of domestic violence, it is better to shoot from POV.

Proposal for the short film

I have made a proposal to make my ideas and purpose of this film clear.
Our group will make a 4 minutes video and 30 seconds promotional video.
30 seconds video will be made by editing the 4 minutes video.

Title: Love Shouldn’t Hurt

Genre: Promotional Video

Target audience: International and local female students aged 18 – 25 at Insearch UTS

Aim:
- To promote our campaign
- To get 400 visitors to our website
- To halve the number of victims of domestic violence
from 10% to 5%
- To raise the level of student participation in a campaign
against domestic violence from the current stated 10% to 50%
- To raise the percentage of students concerned
about domestic violence from 30% to 80%
- To persuade the female audience to report
the incidences of domestic violence
by giving the important contacts
(because most incidences often unreported)

Platform: 4 minutes video will be distributed on our campaign website
and as DVD. We will make available this video
to all students at Insearch UTS through UTS email.

Context: This is a short film targeting Insearch UTS
female students aged 18 -25.
It will be used on our website to promote out campaign,

The campaign called 'Love Shouldn't Hurt'

Our members are Sandra, Friska, Livia and me.

To promote our campaign 'Love Shouldn't Hurt' we will use some media products.
One of them is going to be a short film.

Our campaign is about anti-domestic violence.

Our target audience is female students aged 18 -25 at Insearch UTS.

We are working on making this film in COMM 416.
To show our process, I will use this blog as a journal.
